CSK get back to winning ways and move to the top of the table
Watson and Dhoni come up trumps as CSK get back to winning ways in a high scoring encounter at Pune.
Chasing 212, Delhi Daredevils got off to a decent start. Prithvi Shaw scored a couple of boundaries and in trying to up the ante, fell prey to kerala-born KM Asif who was making his debut. Munro looked in good touch and smacked a few before getting out to Asif. Just when Delhi needed their young captain and Rishabh Pant to carry on and put on a mammoth partnership, they had a misunderstanding in running between the stumps and Shreyas Iyer was run out. Maxwell was removed quickly by Jadeja and things were moving away from Delhi. CSK looked to be on course for a comfortable win before Rishabh Pant and Vijay Shankar threatened to snatch victory. But it was too little too late as CSK won by 13 runs.
Earlier, CSK were put into bat by Shreyas Iyer. They got off to a flyer courtesy of some sublime strokes from Shane Watson. The Australian and Faf du Plessis struck a 102 run opening partnership before du Plessis perished. Raina soon departed and Rayudu continued his great form with the bat. Watson then got out trying to heave the ball over long on. Just when Delhi Daredevils seemed to pull things back, out came a Dhoni special. The skipper smashed 51 off 22 balls, his second fastest IPL fifty to end the innings on a high note and reached 211, a score which was above par for the surface.
CSK made four changes to their lineup and every change seemed to work in some way or the other. Lungi Ngidi made a solid impact. KM Asif showed sparks of his great talent and Faf looked steady at the top. The bowling looked a little shaky towards the end, but there are more positives than negatives for the yellow brigade.
What’s next for CSK?
CSK face Dinesh Karthik’s Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata up next. CSK have been in great form and will be hoping to continue that against a team which desperately needs a win to get into the playoffs. An exciting encounter is on the cards.
