Rayudu runs riot as CSK complete a memorable double over Sunrisers Hyderabad

CSK laid one foot on the playoffs spot by registering an eight wicket victory over the table toppers. Rayudu and Watson provided a chasing masterclass with a century and a half century respectively as Hyderabad succumbed to their first loss while defending a total.

The best defending team of the tournament had 180 in the bank to curtail the best chasing team of the tournament. Rayudu and Watson gave an electric start for the Yellow Brigade by taking SRH bowling to the cleaners, leaving Kane Williamson helpless. He went to his strike bowler Rashid Khan only to see him being negotiated safely by the openers. The pair put on a 134 run stand at 10 rpo, taking the game away from the away side. Watson’s poor running meant, he was run out by Kane Williamson for a well-made 35 ball 57. Raina did not last long but Rayudu celebrated his international call-up with a terrific century off 62 balls with 7 fours and 7 sixes. Dhoni applied the finishing touches and remained not-out as he always does.

After his choice to bat first, backfiredin the last match, Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl first in a hot evening at Pune. Deepak ChaharreplacedKarn Sharma for CSK and SRH brought in Deepak Hooda in place of Yusuf Pathan. CSK bowlers made full use of the strip that aided some lateral movement. Especially, Deepak Chahar exhibited a test match kind of spell by moving the ball either way to trouble the batsmen. He bowled three overs in the powerplay, gave away only 6 runs, picking up one wicket. Alex Hales, who had a torrid time in the middle fell prey to Chahar, chasing a wide half volley.Williamson made sure he saw off Chahar as Sunriserscrawled to their lowest run tally in the powerplay of 29 for 1.

Williamson and Dhawan joined hands in the middle as they used all their experience to put on a 123 run stand for the second wicket. It was also the pair’s 3rd 100 run partnership of the season. While Williamson made sure he anchored the innings, Dhawan played aggressively to cruise to his second fifty on the trot. Between the 7th and 16th overs, CSK conceded less than 10 runs per over only once, showcasing their bowling shortcomings once again. Bravo finally provided the much needed breakthrough to dismiss Dhawan 79(49) using a cutter. He also took a stunner off the very next ball to send Williamson 51(39) back to the dugout. Deepak Hooda played a quick cameo of 21 off 11 as Hyderabad scored 179 for 4 at the end of the innings. Deepak Chahar registered his best figures(4-0-16-1) of the season, Thakur had two wickets against his name.

The form of the openers continues to be a positive for Chennai Super Kings. However, it will be interesting to see how CSK will cope up if they lose both the openers very early. Deepak Chahar made his comeback in a perfect way with an excellent spell, albeit helped by the pitch. It will be interesting to see if Willey will be replaced by Ngidi or not.

What’s Next for CSK?

Next up, CSK meet Delhi Daredevils at Delhi on Friday. Having gone out of the contention for the playoffs, Delhi Daredevils will be playing with a nothing-to-lose attitude while CSK will look to seal their playoffs spot with a win.
