Mumbai Indians halt CSK’s winning run

A brilliant knock from Suresh Raina wasn’t enough as Mumbai Indians got back to winning ways, ending CSK’s winning run in the process.

Chasing 170, Mumbai Indians got off to a great steady courtesy of an in-form Suryakumar Yadav. Yadav and Evin Lewis stitched a useful 69 run partnership before their partnership was broken by an impressive Harbhajan Singh. Rohit Sharma who hasn’t been in great touch off late, came into the middle with 101 runs needed off the last 10 overs. Evin Lewis was playing the sheet-anchor role, and Rohit Sharma kept the scoreboard ticking with clever ones and twos. CSK seemed to slowly get back into the game, but did not get any crucial breakthroughs in the middle overs. With 39 needed off the last 3, Watson and Thakur gave away 33 runs off their two overs, which effectively sealed the game in Mumbai Indians’ favor. Tahir was asked to bowl the final over, but Rohit and Pandya were composed and steered their team across the line.

After being put into bat, CSK got off to a good start. Ambati Rayudu, who has been in great touch, got into the groove again as he played some delightful strokes. Watson got out early, but Raina gave good support to Watson at the other end. Rayudu was then dismissed by Krunal Pandya which brought MS Dhoni into the crease. After a cautious start, Dhoni played some exquisite strokes and threatened to take the game away from Mumbai Indians. But Mitch McCleneghan removed him for 26. Bravo got out on the very next delivery and Chennai struggled to get going in the middle overs. Sam Billings came lower down the order but went out cheaply. Raina stayed until the end and ended the innings strongly, hitting a six off the final ball to take Chennai to 169, a score which was 10-15 runs below par on a good batting wicket.

Takeaways

Rayudu is proving to be Mr.reliable for CSK and they’ll be hoping he can keep up his rampant form. Raina looked in great knick and his form is crucial to CSK’s title hopes. CSK’s bowling has been a bit of a concern, and even though the score was well below par, the bowling performance could have been much better.

What’s next for CSK?

CSK face the Delhi Daredevils at Pune up next on Monday in what promises to be a mouth-watering encounter. CSK will be desperate to get back to winning ways and Delhi will be desperate to climb up the points table. A humdinger awaits on Monday.
